According to the Water Corporation spokesperson, electricity to the pumping station was suspended at around 9:40am. Despite several hours passing, power had not been restored, creating concerns over the impact on water distribution across the city.

Officials warned that around 145 million gallons of water supply could be affected if the electricity outage continues.

Several areas could face reduced or disrupted water supplies, including Landhi, Korangi, Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi. Residents in Shah Faisal Colony, PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, Karsaz, DHA and Qayyumabad may also experience difficulties.

The Water Corporation said K-Electric had informed officials that the power failure occurred after a cable supplying electricity to the pumping station was stolen.

The prolonged outage has added to concerns about Karachi’s already sensitive water distribution system. The pumping station plays an important role in supplying water to several densely populated areas.

Water Corporation officials are reportedly in continuous contact with K-Electric to resolve the issue and restore electricity as quickly as possible.

Officials said efforts would be made to bring water supplies back to normal once power is restored to the pumping station.

The incident highlights how cable theft can quickly disrupt essential public services and affect water availability for thousands of Karachi residents.
