Karachi Ashura 2026 Traffic Plan: roads closed & alternate routes on 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram (June 24–26)
The main processions will start from Nishtar Park and follow their traditional routes, ending at the Hussainiya Irania Imambargah in Kharadar. This route will be used on all three days.
For security reasons, MA Jinnah Road will stay closed from Gurumandir to Tower during all three days of the processions. Only procession vehicles with a special sticker on the windscreen will be allowed to enter this route through the Shahrah-e-Quaideen Society signal.
Other roads affected include Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Tibet Chowk, Baba-e-Urdu, Bara Imam, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, Nawaz Mahabat Khanjee Road, and the area around Kharadar Police Station.
On the 9th of Muharram specifically, there is an extra short closure. The Liaquatabad–Guru Mandir Road will remain closed to traffic between 8:30 am and 9:30 am that day.

Authorities have announced alternative routes for commuters to avoid the closed roads.Commuters coming from Nazimabad will be diverted via Lasbela Chowk towards Nishter Road and Garden, while those travelling from Liaquatabad will be routed through Teen Hatti towards Lasbela Chowk and left turn towards Central Jail on Martin Road.
For those going from Hassan Square to Peoples Chowrangi, alternative routes via Kashmir Road, Society Signal, and Jail Flyover through Teen Hatti towards Nishter Road will be available. Commuters from Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road heading towards Gurumandir will be redirected via Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar, with a partial closure from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on the 9th of Muharram.

Heavy and commercial vehicles will also face traffic restrictions. Traffic coming from the Super Highway and Gulberg towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted at Liaquatabad No. 10 towards Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, then routed via Habib Bank Flyover, the SITE Area, and onward to Mauripur.
Public transport is also affected during this period. The Orange Line and Green Line bus services will remain suspended from Monday until the 10th of Muharram.
