Islamabad and Rawalpindi received heavy rain, flooding several low-lying areas as intermittent showers continued across the twin cities.

The downpour brought relief from the heat but also caused rainwater to collect on roads and in vulnerable neighbourhoods. Similar rainfall spells have recently prompted authorities to activate emergency measures and closely monitor Nullah Lai.

Rainfall recorded across twin cities

According to the available rainfall data, 15 millimetres of rain was recorded in Saidpur, while Golra received 36mm and Bokra recorded 42mm. Pirwadhai received 34mm, New Katarian 36mm and Shamsabad 35mm during the latest spell.

The rainfall has increased concerns about urban flooding in areas where water drainage can become difficult during intense showers. Previous heavy spells also caused significant water accumulation in low-lying parts of both cities.

WASA keeps teams and machinery ready

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has remained on high alert because of the continuing rain. Officials said teams have been deployed around Nullah Lai and other low-lying areas to respond quickly to any emergency.

Heavy machinery has also been kept ready for dewatering operations, while officials continue monitoring vulnerable locations. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert as further rain could increase water accumulation.
