Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif handed over keys of 50 electric vehicles (EVs) to Islamabad Police, praising Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for efforts to modernise policing in the federal capital.

The vehicles are part of a broader move toward smart, secure and environmentally friendly policing. Recent reporting also highlights the expansion and restructuring of the Capital Patrol Unit as Islamabad Police strengthens its patrolling capabilities.

Capital Patrol force to strengthen security

The newly established Capital Patrol has been designed under the Prime Minister's vision of a safe, smart and green capital. The force will consist of 200 police personnel tasked with improving security and ensuring a faster response across Islamabad.

Each patrol unit will include one male and one female police officer. Motorcycle-mounted officers will also be deployed to support rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas.

Body cameras to improve police accountability

All Capital Patrol personnel will be equipped with body cameras. The technology is expected to improve transparency, monitoring and accountability during policing operations.

The Capital Patrol has already become an important operational unit of Islamabad Police, with its responsibilities including crime prevention, patrolling and timely assistance to citizens.

Electric fleet expected to cut costs

Officials said the 50 electric vehicles would save around Rs34 million in fuel costs every month. The cost of each vehicle is expected to be recovered through fuel savings in approximately 10.5 months.

The shift to electric vehicles is also aimed at reducing fuel consumption, operational expenses and pollution while supporting sustainable policing in the capital.
