Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved Rs6.6 billion for the purchase of 30 bullet-proof vehicles ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Islamabad next year.

The decision was taken during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The vehicles will be used for the secure movement of heads of state attending the summit.

SCO Summit security arrangements

The SCO Summit is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in September 2027. The Cabinet Division had initially sought a supplementary grant of Rs12.6 billion for more than 50 bullet-proof vehicles.

After reviewing the proposal, the ECC approved Rs6.6 billion for 30 vehicles and directed the Cabinet Division to conduct an in-depth assessment before seeking approval for any additional requirement.

Pakistan prepares for major summit

The vehicles are part of security and transportation arrangements being planned for the international summit, which is expected to bring heads of state and senior officials to Islamabad.

The government has been reviewing logistical and security requirements well ahead of the event to ensure safe transportation for visiting leaders.

The approval comes as Pakistan prepares to host the SCO Summit, a major diplomatic gathering involving member states and other participating officials.
