India blocks Pakistani YouTube channels after Pahalgam fallout
India has blocked access to several Pakistani YouTube channels, including the official channel of Inter-Services Public Relations, in the latest escalation of tensions following the attack in Pahalgam. Reports of the restrictions emerged on May 1, 2025.
The move came days after Pakistan’s military media wing said it had presented information on April 29 and 30 regarding alleged Indian involvement in activities inside Pakistan. Soon after, Indian users reported that several Pakistani channels had become inaccessible, with platform notices saying the content was unavailable in the country because of a government order related to national security or public order.
Indian authorities had earlier blocked multiple Pakistani media and creator channels after the Pahalgam attack. Reports said the restrictions followed recommendations linked to security concerns and claims of misinformation. The action widened an already tense information environment between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Media analysts say such digital restrictions can limit the flow of information across borders while also reflecting a broader battle over competing narratives. They note that regional rivalry is increasingly being fought not only through diplomacy and security policy, but also across online platforms and social media spaces.
Observers believe the latest episode underlines how the India-Pakistan dispute is now unfolding on both traditional and digital fronts. With tensions remaining high, information control, media access and online messaging are likely to remain central elements of the wider regional contest.
