Independence Day holidays give Pakistanis long weekend in August
This year, the official Independence Day holiday falls on Friday, 14 August. It will be followed by the regular weekend on Saturday and Sunday, giving people three consecutive days off.
The long weekend is expected to encourage many families to plan trips and visit tourist destinations. Others may choose to spend quality time with relatives or take part in recreational activities.
Independence Day celebrations will also take place across the country during the holiday period. Flag-hoisting ceremonies, special events, rallies and colourful celebrations are expected to mark the national occasion.
Many people are also likely to decorate their homes, markets and streets with national flags and decorative lights. The festive atmosphere is expected to be seen in cities and towns across Pakistan.
Tourist spots, parks and recreational areas may witness a higher number of visitors during the extended break. Travel and hospitality businesses could also benefit from the increase in holiday activity.
