Govt shares power supply plan for Muharram 2026
The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has issued detailed instructions to all power distribution companies, the National Power Control Centre (NPCC), and the National Grid Company (NGC) to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply throughout Muharram-ul-Haram, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (Ashura).
According to the ministry, the measures reflect the government’s commitment to public safety and the uninterrupted provision of essential services during one of the most important religious occasions in the Islamic calendar.
To facilitate Muharram processions and Majalis, all power distribution companies (DISCOs) have been directed to immediately coordinate with district administrations, management committees, and law enforcement agencies. They have also been instructed to obtain complete details of procession routes and Majalis venues within their respective areas.
Under the plan, the Chief Engineer (Operations) of each DISCO will serve as the focal person responsible for monitoring the electricity supply. Additional focal persons will also be appointed at the circle level to ensure close coordination with civil authorities, security agencies, and community representatives.

The Power Division has instructed all DISCOs to complete maintenance work on power networks and transformers supplying electricity to Imam Bargahs and Majalis venues by the 7th of Muharram, aiming to reduce the risk of power outages during key religious gatherings.
At the transmission level, the National Grid Company has been directed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to all distribution companies in line with allocations issued by the National Power Control Centre. The ministry has also directed DISCOs to prepare contingency plans to manage feeder loads and prevent forced load shedding, especially in areas that have previously experienced electricity disruptions during peak demand periods.
Officials said all relevant institutions will work together to ensure a smooth electricity supply during Muharram. The government has urged power companies, transmission authorities, and district administrations to maintain close coordination for the peaceful and uninterrupted observance of Ashura.
