Govt plans to rename NCCIA as Cyber Police
Major change proposed for NCCIA
The government is considering changes to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), including a possible name change and a new operating structure.
Under the proposed Cyber Police Pakistan model, the agency could work more closely with the regular police department.
The NCCIA restructuring plan has reportedly been sent to the Ministry of Interior for consideration.
The proposal would also change how cybercrime cases are handled at the district level.
Cyber Police stations proposed
A key part of the Cyber Police Pakistan proposal is the establishment of dedicated Cyber Police stations in every district.
These stations could be headed by Station House Officers instead of NCCIA deputy directors.
The proposed NCCIA restructuring would also introduce different levels of supervision depending on the size of each district.
Larger districts could have SP- and DSP-rank officers, while smaller districts could be supervised by DSP-rank officers.
The plan is aimed at bringing cybercrime Pakistan investigations closer to the existing district police structure.
Special plan for Lahore
The proposed Cyber Police Pakistan system would have a separate setup for Lahore.
A Cyber Police station has been proposed for every police division in the city.
The plan suggests that one SSP and two SPs would oversee the proposed structure.
The NCCIA restructuring could therefore create a larger local network for handling cybercrime cases in Lahore and other major districts.

Existing offices may be converted
Under the proposal, existing NCCIA buildings could be converted into Cyber Police stations.
The plan also calls for cybercrime investigations to be integrated with the district police system.
A joint mechanism between regular police and Cyber Police has also been proposed.
The aim is to improve coordination when dealing with cybercrime Pakistan cases, including online fraud, harassment and data-related offences.
What happens next?
The NCCIA currently operates under the Ministry of Interior and is responsible for investigating cybercrime.
The proposed NCCIA restructuring is still under consideration, and the Ministry of Interior will make the final decision.
If approved, the Cyber Police Pakistan model would introduce a new structure for cybercrime investigations across the country.
