(Web Desk): Punjab government announces price cut of Rs 10 to Rs 16 per kg and litre on ghee and cooking oil to give relief before Ramadan.

The Punjab government has announced a major price cut in ghee and cooking oil ahead of Ramadan, offering much-needed relief to consumers facing rising food costs.

The decision was made following a key meeting between Asim Javed, Director General of the Punjab Food Authority, and representatives of Pakistan ghee mills association. The meeting focused on ensuring affordable prices and maintaining quality during the holy month.

After the meeting, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Salma Butt told media that prices of all brands of ghee and cooking oil will be reduced by Rs 10 to Rs 16 per kg and litre pack during Ramadan. She said the government’s top priority is to provide maximum relief to the public and ensure essential food items remain affordable.

Industry representatives assured full cooperation, saying the price reduction will be directly passed on to consumers. Officials also confirmed that supply chains will be closely monitored to prevent shortages or artificial price hikes.

Asim Javed said authorities will ensure the availability of quality ghee and cooking oil at discounted rates across markets. He added that if global palm oil prices fall further, additional relief may also be provided after consultation with the industry.
