Donald Trump has ordered another naval fleet toward the Middle East, increasing pressure on Iran ahead of critical talks expected this week.
Speaking to media, Trump said the United States wants a deal with Iran and hopes negotiations will succeed. However, he issued a strong warning, saying Iran could face “very serious consequences” if an agreement is not reached. He added that military assets, including naval forces, may be used if diplomacy fails.
Trump confirmed that one US naval fleet is already deployed in the region and emphasized that American forces are fully prepared. He said the US maintains a strong military presence in the Middle East and can respond quickly if needed.
Meanwhile, a senior US official revealed that the military is preparing contingency plans against Iran. The official said any potential operation could last several weeks if tensions escalate or diplomacy collapses.
Direct negotiations between the United States and Iran are scheduled to begin Tuesday in Geneva. US envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner are expected to meet Iranian officials to discuss key issues, including nuclear and regional security concerns.
