The International Astronomical Center has released a new forecast regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon, determining the likely dates for Eid-ul-Fitr in different countries.
According to the center, countries that began fasting on Wednesday, February 18, are expected to observe the moon on Wednesday, March 18. Meanwhile, in countries where the first day of Ramadan was on Thursday, February 19, the moon sighting will take place on Thursday, March 19.
The center clarified that in countries set to sight the moon on March 18, visibility will be impossible. This is because the moon will set before the sun, and the conjunction will occur after sunset. As a result, Eid in these countries is likely to be celebrated on March 20.
For regions expected to sight the moon on March 19, especially across Eastern and Central parts of the Islamic world, moon visibility will also be extremely difficult. Due to these astronomical conditions, Eid-ul-Fitr in these areas is expected to be celebrated on Saturday, March 21.

The announcement comes as countries prepare their moon sighting committees and organize religious gatherings to confirm the new month of Shawwal. The center did not disclose the expenses incurred for these committee meetings, though details are expected to emerge.
Astronomers emphasize that careful observation and timing are crucial to determine the correct Eid date. They advise that local authorities and religious scholars follow the scientific guidance to ensure uniformity in celebrations while respecting traditional practices.
