Diesel levy raised to Rs80 per litre
The federal government has announced an increase in the levy charged on diesel, raising it by Rs1.72 per litre, according to sources.
Following the increase, the levy on high-speed diesel has reached Rs80 per litre.
The latest move comes shortly after the government revised petroleum product prices, adding another change to the cost structure of fuel in Pakistan.
Petrol and Kerosene Levies
According to sources, the levy on petrol has been kept unchanged at Rs80 per litre.
Similarly, the levy on kerosene oil remains unchanged at Rs20.36 per litre.
The government regularly adjusts petroleum levies as part of its revenue collection measures, while fuel prices are also influenced by international oil prices, exchange rates and other factors.
Recent Fuel Price Changes
Earlier, the Petroleum Division announced a major reduction in the price of high-speed diesel for August 20.
The price of diesel was cut by Rs32.63 per litre, providing some relief to consumers and transport operators.
However, petrol became more expensive, with its price increased by Rs2.97 per litre.
Following the latest adjustment, the price of petrol reached Rs337.51 per litre.
Impact on Consumers
The increase in the diesel levy could add pressure to transportation and logistics costs, particularly because diesel is widely used by commercial vehicles, buses, trucks and agricultural machinery.
Although the reduction in the diesel price is expected to provide relief, the higher levy could affect the overall cost structure for fuel consumers and businesses.
Meanwhile, keeping the petrol levy unchanged means motorists will continue to pay the existing levy despite the recent increase in the retail petrol price.
The latest levy decision will likely remain closely watched as the government balances revenue needs with efforts to manage fuel prices and inflationary pressures.
