CM Maryam vows stronger efforts for environment protection
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed her government’s commitment to protecting the environment, reducing plastic pollution, and expanding tree plantation campaigns across the province. In her message on World Environment Day, she urged citizens to play an active role in protecting natural resources and planting more trees to help build a cleaner and greener Punjab.
The chief minister praised Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and the relevant departments for their efforts to improve environmental conditions in Lahore and other parts of the province. She also welcomed the noticeable reduction in smog and the improvements in air quality during the previous year.
Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to continue strict action against the use of substandard plastic bags and accelerate work on Punjab’s first Environment Observatory project. She said protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and essential for future generations.
She stated that ongoing efforts to control pollution and combat smog are producing encouraging results. According to the chief minister, Punjab has become the first province in the region to develop a predictive early warning system for environmental pollution.
She added that advanced air quality forecasting systems are now being used to monitor pollution levels across Punjab. A 24-hour monitoring system has also been activated through the province’s first “Environment Wall,” allowing real-time tracking of environmental data.
