LAHORE (Web Desk): Rising water levels in the Chenab and Ravi rivers have flooded parts of Punjab, damaging homes, farmland and prompting authorities to launch relief efforts.

Floodwaters from the Chenab River have caused severe damage in Kot Bela near Alipur Chattha. Rapid riverbank erosion has put dozens of houses at risk, while thousands of acres of farmland have been washed away.

Standing crops have been submerged under several feet of water, leaving farmers facing heavy financial losses and raising concerns about their livelihoods. Residents said they were still recovering from last year’s devastating floods when the latest flooding brought fresh hardship. They urged the Punjab government to take immediate protective measures and speed up relief operations in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department said water levels at Head Sidhani on the Ravi River near Abdul Hakeem continue to rise. Officials said the inflow at Head Sidhani reached 53,530 cusecs, while the outflow was recorded at 38,230 cusecs, keeping authorities on high alert.

The district administration has established flood relief camps in Mill Fatehiana, Kot Pathana, Adda Kalyara, Mauza Tara, Haveli Mai Safuran, Kot Karam Shah and Dedhi to assist affected residents. Floodwaters have also submerged crops in Mill Fatehiana, Khan Da Chak, Jhlar Sagla, Shahbal Shah, Basti Peepal Wala and Mauza Darsana, adding to the losses suffered by local farmers.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Irrigation Department has advised people living along the riverbanks to move to safer locations as a precaution against further flooding. Authorities are continuing to monitor the river situation closely and have urged residents to follow official advisories as water levels remain high.
