Chehlum processions: Rawalpindi announces major road closures
Major roads to remain closed during processions
The traffic police said several major roads will be temporarily closed during the Chehlum processions.
The affected routes include Liaquat Road from DAV College Chowk to Fawara Chowk, City Saddar Road from Mashriq Hotel to Fawara Chowk, and Kashmiri Bazaar Road from Novelty Cinema to Fawara Chowk.
Ganjmandi Road from Ganjmandi Police Station to Fawara Chowk will also remain closed during procession timings.
Other affected roads include Bagh Sardaran Road from Chungi No. 4 to Bansawala Chowk, Banni Chowk, and Iqbal Road from Committee Chowk to Fawara Chowk. Gordon College Road, Fifth Road, Fourth Road, and Asghar Mall Road are also included in the traffic restriction plan.
Alternate routes arranged for commuters
The City Traffic Police said vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes to maintain smooth traffic flow. Additional traffic personnel will be deployed at important locations to assist citizens and manage possible congestion.
Officials advised motorists to cooperate with traffic staff and follow the diversion plan during procession timings. The police said the arrangements have been made to ensure public convenience and security during the religious gatherings.
Traffic officers are directed to remain alert
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam has directed all circle DSPs and traffic in-charges to remain on high alert. He instructed officers to coordinate closely with district police officials and ensure the effective implementation of the traffic management plan.

The CTO also directed traffic personnel to provide maximum assistance to citizens throughout the Chehlum observances. Officials said continuous monitoring will be carried out to address any traffic-related issues during the event.
Citizens advised to avoid unnecessary travel
The traffic police have advised citizens to plan their journeys and use alternate routes during procession timings. Motorists have especially been urged to avoid unnecessary travel on Murree Road and nearby areas to prevent inconvenience.
Officials said following the traffic plan will help reduce delays and ensure smoother movement for emergency and routine traffic. Citizens have also been encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement personnel deployed across the city.
Security arrangements strengthened for Chehlum
Authorities have increased security and traffic arrangements due to the expected movement of a large number of participants during the Chehlum processions. Police and traffic officials are working together to ensure the event is conducted peacefully.
The deployment of additional personnel and the establishment of diversion points are part of wider arrangements to maintain law and order. Officials said all necessary measures have been taken to facilitate worshippers while keeping public movement organised.
Traffic restrictions aimed at smooth event management
The CTP Rawalpindi said the temporary road closures are necessary to manage traffic during the religious event.
Officials added that the restrictions will remain in place only during procession timings, and normal traffic operations will resume after the completion of arrangements. Authorities have requested citizens to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials.
