Big alert from PTA: Check your SIMs or face security risks
PTA highlights security concerns over third-party use of mobile SIMs, as citizens are urged to block unauthorized numbers linked to their CNIC. In a statement issued on Thursday, a PTA spokesperson said that allowing someone else to use a SIM registered under an individual’s identity is a violation of the law.
The authority further warned that if a SIM linked to a person’s CNIC is used for any illegal activity, the registered owner may be held responsible for the consequences.
PTA urged citizens to regularly check the number of SIM cards registered against their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). Users can verify this by visiting the official SIM information system or by sending their CNIC number (without dashes) to 668.

The authority also advised the public to immediately block any unknown, unnecessary, or suspicious SIMs linked to their identity to prevent misuse. Officials stressed that mobile users should only obtain new SIM cards from authorised franchises or official customer service centres to ensure security and compliance with regulations.
PTA said that more information and guidance are available through its official website for users seeking help regarding SIM registration and verification. The advisory aims to raise awareness about identity misuse and strengthen digital security across the country, especially as cases of SIM-related fraud continue to rise.
