(Web Desk): Safe Basant celebrations revived Lahore’s culture and created massive economic activity worth billions.

Basant revival brought Rs20 billion economic boom to Lahore, restoring cultural spirit and drawing huge public participation.

The All Pakistan Kite Flying Association (APKFA) said the successful celebration of Basant revived Lahore’s historic festival and generated economic activity exceeding Rs20 billion across the city. The association described the event as both a cultural comeback and a powerful economic boost.

Speaking at a press conference, APKFA Patron-in-Chief Aqeel Malik said people aged 10 to 70 were seen flying kites from rooftops, creating a joyful atmosphere. He credited Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for restoring what he called Lahore’s “lost festival,” saying government support made the revival possible.

According to APKFA estimates, vendors, transport operators, and small traders saw significant profits during the three-day festival. Around 900,000 vehicles entered Lahore from different cities, while nearly 200,000 people used free public transport, including the Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Bus.

Malik said strict safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) ensured a safe event. No incidents of kite strings causing fatal injuries were reported, while safety rods installed on motorbikes helped prevent accidents.

However, the association raised concerns about illegal profiteering. Kite makers, bamboo sellers, and property owners sharply increased prices, with daily rents rising from Rs3,000 to Rs35,000. APKFA said lists of profiteers had been prepared.

Malik said the government plans to expand Basant celebrations across Punjab next year with regulated kite prices to prevent exploitation and ensure safer celebrations.
