ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Banks and financial institutions across Pakistan will remain closed for three days from August 14 to 16 due to Independence Day and regular weekend holidays.

The closure will include the State Bank of Pakistan and other financial institutions, according to a circular issued by the central bank.

The three-day break combines the Independence Day public holiday with the regular weekend holidays. However, customers will continue to have access to ATMs and online banking services during the closure.

Independence Day marks the first day of closure

August 14 will be observed as a public holiday across Pakistan on the occasion of Independence Day. Banks, financial institutions and other relevant offices will remain closed on the day.

The public holiday will be followed by the regular weekend holidays, extending the closure to three consecutive days. Customers planning to visit bank branches are advised to complete important transactions before the holidays begin.

State Bank and financial institutions included

According to the State Bank’s circular, the three-day closure will apply to the State Bank of Pakistan, banks, and financial institutions across the country. Bank branches will remain closed throughout the holiday period.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange will also observe the public holiday and regular weekly holidays. Normal operations are expected to resume after the three-day break, according to the regular working schedule.

ATMs and online banking services to remain available

The State Bank has clarified that ATMs and online banking services will remain operational during the closure. Customers will therefore be able to withdraw cash and use digital banking services.

Online fund transfers and other services available through banks’ digital platforms are also expected to remain accessible, subject to the availability of individual banks. However, services requiring a visit to a physical branch may not be available until normal banking operations resume.

Customers are advised to plan ahead

The three-day closure could affect customers who need to visit bank branches for transactions or other services. People requiring services such as document submission, account-related matters, or other branch-based transactions may need to complete them before August 14.

Customers are advised to ensure they have sufficient cash and access to digital banking services during the holidays. Those planning urgent financial transactions should also check their banks’ schedules and service availability.

Normal banking operations to resume after holidays

Banks and financial institutions are expected to resume normal operations after the Independence Day and weekend holidays. Customers will be able to visit branches once the scheduled closure ends.

The State Bank’s announcement provides advance notice to help customers and businesses manage their banking needs before the three-day break. Digital banking and ATM services will remain the main options for customers requiring basic banking facilities during the closure.
