Bangladesh signals interest in Pakistan-Türkiye-Saudi defence pact
Bangladesh considers national interests
Bangladesh Adviser for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said Dhaka viewed positively the possibility of joining a framework involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye, according to Bangladeshi media.
He said Bangladesh would consider its national interests while assessing such a proposal.
The changing global economic environment and developments in international trade would also be taken into account, he added. His remarks suggest that Bangladesh is keeping the option open while assessing how such a framework could serve its economic and strategic interests.
Dhaka seeks stronger ties with Pakistan
Humayun Kabir said Bangladesh was working to strengthen practical bilateral relations with Pakistan as part of its normal diplomatic activities. The two countries are also seeking to increase trade and improve people-to-people contacts.
Greater economic engagement could provide opportunities for businesses in both countries and create more avenues for commercial cooperation. The push for stronger people-to-people contacts could also help improve relations beyond government-level diplomacy.
Trade cooperation gains attention
Bangladesh’s interest in expanding trade with Pakistan comes amid changes in global economic and trading patterns. Kabir said developments in international trade would be among the factors considered when Dhaka evaluates possible regional arrangements.
For Bangladesh, stronger trade links could create new opportunities for businesses and expand access to markets. Pakistan could also benefit from increased commercial engagement with Bangladesh if bilateral trade and economic cooperation continue to grow.
Possible defence cooperation draws attention
The possibility of Bangladesh joining a defence framework involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye could have wider regional significance. However, the available remarks indicate that Dhaka has expressed openness to the idea rather than announced a decision to join such a framework.

Any future move would likely depend on Bangladesh’s assessment of its national interests and the structure and objectives of the proposed arrangement. The issue could therefore remain under consideration as regional diplomatic and economic relationships continue to develop.
Tarique Rahman expected to visit Saudi Arabia
According to Bangladeshi media reports, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Saudi Arabia soon following an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The expected visit could provide another opportunity for discussions on bilateral and regional issues.
Saudi Arabia maintains important economic and diplomatic relations across South Asia, making its engagement with Bangladesh significant for Dhaka’s regional policy. The visit could also attract attention to possible areas of cooperation involving Bangladesh and other regional partners.
What the development means
Bangladesh’s latest position points towards a possible expansion of its regional engagement. Dhaka appears interested in strengthening practical ties with Pakistan while keeping its options open regarding wider economic or defence cooperation.
At this stage, there is no confirmed decision that Bangladesh will join a Pakistan-Saudi-Turkiye framework. The coming diplomatic discussions will be important in determining whether the idea develops into a formal arrangement or remains under consideration.
