August 14 bank holiday brings three-day closure across Pakistan
Banks will remain closed on August 14, followed by the usual Saturday and Sunday holidays on August 15 and 16. This means customers will not be able to visit physical branches during the three-day break.
When will banks reopen?
Regular banking services are expected to resume on Monday, August 17. Customers who need branch-based services should complete their important work before the holiday begins.
The closure will mainly affect physical bank branches. Digital banking, ATMs and mobile services may continue to operate, although availability can differ between banks.
Customers are therefore advised to check their bank’s digital services before relying on them during the holiday. Any service requiring staff or a physical branch visit may have to wait until Monday.
Public holiday across Punjab and Sindh
The Punjab government has announced a public holiday on August 14 to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day. Government offices and most public institutions across the province will remain closed.
The Services and General Administration Department issued the notification for the holiday. Regular office activities in most Punjab government departments will remain suspended.
Sindh has also declared August 14 a public holiday across the province. Government and semi-government offices, corporations and local councils will observe the holiday.
Institutions providing essential public services will continue operating despite the holiday. This means important public services will remain available where required.
Independence Day celebrations planned
August 14 will be marked as Pakistan’s Independence Day with celebrations across the country. National flags are expected to be displayed at government buildings, major roads and other important locations.
Government and private organisations are also expected to arrange special events for the occasion. The holiday will give people an opportunity to take part in Independence Day activities while government offices remain closed.
The three-day break means bank customers will have limited access to physical branches from Friday through Sunday. Planning important banking work before the holiday can help avoid delays.
Digital services may provide an alternative for routine transactions during the closure. However, customers should confirm service availability with their individual banks because some facilities may operate differently during public holidays.
