Strong earthquake shakes Peshawar
PESHAWAR (Web Desk): A 4.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Peshawar on Wednesday, with its epicenter in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region.

An earthquake of 4.7-magnitude struck Peshawar on Wednesday, causing panic among residents as tremors rippled through the city. According to the Seismological Centre, the quake originated in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush mountain range, with its epicenter recorded at a depth of 211 kilometers beneath the earth s surface.

This event comes on the heels of a 5.3-magnitude earthquake that occurred last month, impacting Islamabad and various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, and North Waziristan. That earlier quake also stemmed from the Hindu Kush region and had a slightly deeper epicenter at 230 kilometers.

Pakistan is particularly prone to seismic disturbances due to its geographic location along the collision boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This positioning makes the country susceptible to regular and sometimes intense tremors.

In addition to recent activity in the north, Karachi has seen a noticeable uptick in minor quakes. Experts attribute this trend to the reactivation of the Landhi Fault Line, which is currently undergoing a period of geological adjustment after lying dormant for decades.
