Amid intensifying cold across Pakistan, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply for industries this Sunday. The company cited line pack and pressure drop issues in the gas system caused by the extreme cold as the main reason for the move.
According to an SSGC spokesperson, industrial gas supply will be cut from 8:00 AM on January 11 to 8:00 AM on January 12. They stressed that domestic and commercial consumers will remain unaffected, as they receive priority under existing regulations. Citizens have been urged to use gas wisely during peak cold hours to minimize strain on the system.

The spokesperson also noted that industrial supply was previously suspended last Sunday for the same reason, ensuring homes and businesses received uninterrupted gas. Night-time domestic supply has traditionally been limited from 9:30 PM to 6:00 AM, a measure maintained to balance high demand during the winter months.
SSGC warned industry owners and managers to make alternative arrangements to prevent disruption of production. The company emphasized that careful usage of limited gas resources is necessary to maintain system stability and meet essential needs during the severe cold wave.

This step comes as gas consumption surges nationwide due to falling temperatures, with single-digit readings reported in Karachi and other regions. Authorities say the move is essential to protect the gas system and ensure domestic users can stay warm while industry supply is temporarily halted.
