The Punjab government has announced the launch of the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar Program, a major initiative aimed at promoting employment, strengthening agriculture and improving rural livelihoods across the province.
The decision was taken during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Under the program, government-owned agricultural land will be allocated to individuals for cultivation, enabling thousands of families to earn a sustainable income through farming.
According to official sources, authorities have been directed to provide farmland to 50,000 individuals in the first phase of the initiative. The beneficiaries will be given access to unused or underutilised state land, allowing them to grow crops and become self-reliant.
Officials said the program is designed to address unemployment while also boosting agricultural productivity. By encouraging people to engage directly in farming, the government aims to strengthen food security and increase local crop output across Punjab.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revive the rural economy and reduce poverty in farming communities. It is also expected to create indirect employment opportunities in related sectors such as transport, storage and agri-based industries.

Government representatives said transparent mechanisms will be introduced to ensure fair land allocation and proper use of agricultural resources. Training and guidance may also be provided to participants to help them adopt modern farming techniques and improve yields.
The Apna Khet Apna Rozgar Program comes alongside other employment-focused initiatives recently approved by the Punjab government, reflecting a renewed push towards job creation and economic stability.
Officials expressed hope that the program will not only empower individuals but also contribute to long-term agricultural growth and rural development in the province.
