The Punjab Health Department has issued a high alert for 13 government hospitals across Lahore ahead of the Basant festival, scheduled from February 6 to 8, 2026. Authorities have instructed hospitals to maintain full medical, nursing, and paramedical staff coverage during the three-day festivities.
Hospitals are also required to ensure ample supplies of medicines, drips, vaccines, and surgical instruments. Dedicated emergency beds must be allocated, and hospitals should prepare updated lists of blood donors along with arrangements for blood bag collection. Diagnostic equipment including X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI machines must remain fully operational throughout the festival. All hospital communication lines, including mobile and landline connections, should be active, and a detailed emergency response plan is to be submitted to the Health Department.

In coordination with the Basant preparations, the Punjab government has issued a strict code of conduct for kite flying. Celebrations will officially run from February 6 to 8, under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, who issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the festival.
The code of conduct includes a total ban on metal, chemical, or Nylon glass-coated kite strings. Loud music, DJ systems, aerial firing, and display of firearms are strictly prohibited. Misbehavior, harassment, or any acts disturbing public peace will lead to immediate action. Buildings used for kite flying must be structurally safe, and precautions must be in place to prevent falls and electrical hazards.
Authorities have also highlighted restrictions for kite runners. Kite flying near airports, air routes, sensitive installations, electricity transmission lines, or prohibited areas is forbidden. The NOC is valid only for non-commercial kite flying; no tickets, food, beverages, or commercial advertising are allowed. District administration officers, police, and other officials will have the authority to inspect activities at any time, and violations of the code will result in the cancellation of the NOC.
This comprehensive preparation aims to ensure public safety, prevent accidents, and allow Lahore residents to enjoy a safe and controlled Basant festival.
