(Web Des): PIA is focusing on upgrading its services and will treat overseas Pakistanis as premier customers, with ticket prices likely to drop as operations stabilize.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to undergo a major transformation under the newly acquired 75% shareholding by Arif Habib Consortium. The airline’s top priority, according to consortium head Arif Habib, is to enhance service quality, improve operational efficiency, and eventually consider reducing ticket fares to stay competitive in the aviation market.

In a recent statement, Arif Habib emphasized that overseas Pakistanis will be given special importance in PIA’s new policy, treating them as premier customers. This move recognizes their pivotal role in Pakistan’s economy through remittances and international contributions.

The proposed improvements include:

  • Increasing direct flights between Pakistan’s smaller cities and Gulf countries to facilitate easier travel for overseas Pakistanis.
  • Upgrading PIA’s fleet, adding new aircraft while improving the condition and facilities of existing planes.
  • Enhancing in-flight comfort, seating, cleanliness, and overall services to meet international standards.
  • Gradual reduction of ticket prices once operational efficiency and cost management allow.

Arif Habib explained that the airline will operate on minimal profit margins initially to attract more passengers while focusing on restoring trust. Currently, PIA has around 16–17 active aircraft, with plans to expand the fleet to 38 planes, increasing flight frequency and operational flexibility.

Regarding ticket fares, Habib stated that the initial focus will remain on improving service quality. Once the airline achieves operational stability, there will be room to reduce fares to compete with other airlines in the region.

Arif Habib highlighted the importance of feedback from overseas Pakistanis, noting their global airline experience can help PIA adopt international best practices. Direct engagement with the diaspora will guide the airline in implementing positive, passenger-friendly changes.

Overall, the consortium aims to make PIA a safe, comfortable, and reliable airline, with overseas Pakistanis at the center of its strategic planning.
