The visit is being described as important for Pakistan’s economic future. According to sources, Ajay Banga will stay in the country until 4 February and meet top government leaders.
During his stay, the World Bank president is expected to hold discussions with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and other senior officials. These meetings will cover key policy matters and development priorities.
Sources say the talks will mainly focus on economic reforms, water-related challenges, and other major national issues. Ajay Banga will also receive briefings on Pakistan’s reform agenda and development projects.

Officials expect progress on the 10-year Country Partnership Framework. Under this plan, the World Bank has committed to providing Pakistan with up to $20 billion in financial support by 2035.
Earlier, in December last year, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved $700 million for the Pakistan Public Resources for Inclusive Development – Multiphase Programmatic Approach (PRID-MPA).
The PRID-MPA is a long-term and multi-program initiative. It aims to support macroeconomic stability and improve public services across the country.
According to a World Bank press release, the program supports both federal and provincial reforms. It focuses on increasing domestic revenue, improving public spending, and using data and digital tools to deliver better services.

The initiative is aligned with reforms under the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the National Fiscal Pact. Over time, the program may provide total financing of up to $1.35 billion through multiple phases.
