Pakistan Railways has decided to outsource the schools it currently runs, marking another major policy change after the outsourcing of train operations.
Officials say the plan is meant to streamline management and reduce the financial load on the department, with Pakistan Railways schools now included in the reform agenda.
According to an official notification, contracts for managing Pakistan Railways schools will be awarded through a bidding process.
Only organizations with at least 30 years of experience in running educational institutions will be eligible to take part.
The schools selected for outsourcing include PR Girls Middle School Mayo Garden Lahore, PR Primary School Faisalabad, PR Boys High School Rasulpur, PR Secondary School Kotri, and PR Secondary School Papri.
Authorities say these Pakistan Railways schools will continue functioning while management responsibilities are shifted.

This decision is part of a broader strategy to monetize assets, including railway-owned land, and improve efficiency.
However, critics have raised concerns about transparency and the future of students studying in Pakistan Railways schools, calling for clear safeguards before the plan is implemented.
