PTI announces September 27 march

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will hold a major march towards Islamabad on September 27.

Speaking at a tree plantation event in Spin Khak, Nowshera, Afridi said the party was targeting a gathering of two million people in the federal capital.

The chief minister said PTI would continue following the political vision of its founding chairman, Imran Khan. He maintained that government positions, power and wealth were not the reasons the party entered politics.

Afridi urged residents of the area to participate in the planned September 27 gathering. He also linked the political campaign with PTI’s broader claims about constitutional supremacy and the rule of law.

He said the party would continue its political struggle until its stated objectives were achieved. According to Afridi, PTI joined politics to strengthen constitutional principles rather than simply seek government positions.

Afridi links government work with PTI vision

The K-P chief minister also spoke about the provincial government’s development activities during the event. He said current government initiatives were based on the vision and ideas associated with Imran Khan.

Afridi described public welfare as PTI’s main priority. He said the provincial government was working on projects designed to benefit both current residents and future generations.

His comments came during the inauguration of a large-scale tree plantation campaign at Spin Khak. Provincial Health Minister Khaliqur Rahman, Special Assistant on Forests Pir Masoor Ghazi and several members of the provincial assembly attended the ceremony.

The chief minister said the provincial government had originally planned to plant 1.4 million saplings across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in a single day. However, the Forest Department reported that around 1.7 million trees were ultimately planted.

Afridi praised the department for exceeding its initial target. He said public money was being invested in environmental projects whose benefits would extend to future generations.

Tree plantation drive expanded after floods

The chief minister also highlighted the importance of expanding tree plantation following recent sudden floods and cloudbursts in the province.

He directed the Forest Department to extend the plantation campaign across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The move is aimed at improving forest cover and strengthening environmental protection in areas vulnerable to extreme weather.

Afridi also instructed officials to establish tourist huts in forest areas. He suggested promoting the province as a tourism destination by encouraging foreign visitors to plant trees in their own names.

According to the chief minister, such initiatives could combine environmental protection with tourism development. The provincial government believes greater forest coverage can also create long-term benefits for local communities.

Afridi said residents of Garhi Chandan had already received Rs70 million from income generated through forest-related activities. He presented this as an example of how natural resources could provide economic benefits to communities.

Political struggle remains PTI priority

The chief minister said PTI was pursuing political objectives while also focusing on development projects. He argued that both efforts were connected to the party’s broader vision for the province and country.

Afridi stressed that the September 27 march would be an important part of the party’s ongoing political campaign. His announcement sets a clear date for what PTI is presenting as a major show of public support.

The proposed two-million turnout would make the gathering one of the party’s largest planned demonstrations if the target is achieved. However, the actual number of participants will only become clear when the march takes place.

The announcement also comes amid continuing political tensions surrounding Imran Khan and PTI. Afridi used the occasion to repeat the party’s position that its political struggle is focused on constitutional rule and the rule of law.

He called on people in Spin Khak and surrounding areas to take part in the September 27 gathering. The party is expected to mobilise supporters ahead of the announced march.

What the announcement means

The September 27 plan puts PTI’s political mobilisation back in focus. The proposed march will test the party’s ability to bring supporters from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country to Islamabad.

At the same time, Afridi’s emphasis on development and environmental projects shows that the K-P government is seeking to highlight governance alongside political activity.

The success of the march will depend on participation, organisation and the political environment closer to September 27. For now, PTI has announced an ambitious target and made the release and political vision of Imran Khan central to its campaign.
