The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a financial support package for motorcycle owners after the recent increase in petrol prices. Under the new plan, eligible riders will receive Rs2,200 to help manage rising fuel costs.
Officials say the subsidy will apply only to registered motorcycles. Authorities have advised owners to ensure their vehicle registration details are updated so they can qualify once the distribution process begins.
The relief package is expected to benefit a large number of people across the province. Government estimates suggest around 1.4 million to 1.6 million registered motorcycles may receive the subsidy under the program.
The announcement was made by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who criticized the recent increase in petroleum product prices by the federal government. He said the subsidy program is designed to ease the financial pressure on citizens who depend on motorcycles for daily travel.
According to the provincial government, motorcycles are the most widely used mode of transport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Workers, students, and small business owners rely heavily on bikes to reach workplaces, schools, and markets. With petrol prices rising sharply, many families have struggled to cover transportation expenses.

The chief minister said the provincial government will bear the full cost of the subsidy program in order to support low and middle income citizens affected by higher fuel prices.
Officials added that despite the petrol price increase, fares for the Bus Rapid Transit system will remain unchanged. Authorities said this step was taken to prevent additional pressure on people who depend on public transport.
While the subsidy amount has been confirmed, the government has not yet announced the final method for distributing the Rs2,200 payment. Officials said the amount may be transferred through bank accounts or through a system similar to the Ehsaas Program, but the exact mechanism will be announced later.
The subsidy shows the provincial government is trying to reduce the impact of higher petrol prices. Motorcycles are the main transport for many people, so even small financial support can help. However, the real benefit will depend on how quickly and smoothly the subsidy is distributed.
