(Web Desk): Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi discussed Pakistan-China ties, regional peace and SCO cooperation, with China expressing support for Pakistan’s 2027 SCO summit.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation in international forums.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the meeting was held in a warm and positive atmosphere. Dar thanked Wang Yi for appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and stability, which the Chinese foreign minister had highlighted during his remarks at the SCO meeting.

Wang Yi also conveyed his best wishes to Pakistan as it prepares to take over the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State and host the SCO Summit in 2027. The gesture reflected China’s continued support for Pakistan’s role within the regional organisation.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov at his official residence in Cholpon-Ata. During the meeting, Dar conveyed greetings from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and thanked the Kyrgyz leadership for its hospitality during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The two sides discussed regional and global developments and highlighted the growing importance of the SCO as a platform for cooperation among member states. Dar also stressed the need for continued collaboration as Pakistan prepares to assume the SCO chairmanship for the 2026-27 term.

Before attending the SCO meeting, Dar participated in the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines. During the forum, he called on the international community to continue diplomatic efforts for lasting peace, especially in the Gulf region.

Dar said recent developments in the Gulf had affected many countries and urged the world not to lose the opportunity created by recent diplomatic progress. He said Pakistan had done everything within its capacity to support peace and stability and stressed that dialogue remains the best path forward.

On the sidelines of the ARF meeting, Dar also met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two leaders reviewed Pakistan-Russia relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity and coordination at multilateral forums.

The SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting brought together foreign ministers from Pakistan, China, Russia, India, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The forum focuses on regional security, international relations and foreign policy coordination among member states.
