Ishaq Dar calls for lasting peace as Pakistan highlights role in US-Iran diplomacy
Dar said Pakistan played an active role in promoting peace by helping facilitate discussions that led to a ceasefire. He said the country appreciated the trust shown by the United States, Iran, Gulf nations, and other partners in supporting these diplomatic efforts. According to him, these achievements were made possible through dialogue and cooperation.
He stressed that all parties should honour their commitments, avoid further tensions, and continue peaceful engagement. Dar also expressed hope that continued diplomacy would help reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore normal shipping activities in the region.
Speaking about South Asia, Dar said the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a major source of regional instability. He also criticised India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, saying the move could seriously affect Pakistan’s water resources and the livelihoods of millions of people.

On Gaza, Dar described the humanitarian situation as deeply concerning and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Addressing terrorism, Dar said Pakistan has made enormous sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism, with more than 80,000 lives lost. He urged the Afghan Taliban to ensure Afghan territory is not used for attacks against Pakistan, saying this would create greater opportunities for trade and regional development.

Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and backed peaceful negotiations in the South China Sea in line with international law. He also highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to tackling climate change through clean energy and stronger international cooperation.

On the sidelines of the forum, Dar held meetings with officials from the United Kingdom, Australia, Oman, Russia, Bangladesh, and the Asian Development Bank to discuss bilateral relations, regional security, trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He later departed for Kyrgyzstan to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.
