ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan and the Maldives have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and maintain close contact to implement agreements reached during the Maldivian president’s recent visit to Islamabad.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke by telephone with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam to discuss relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and Maldives Focus on Agreements

During the conversation, Adam thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Maldivian president and his delegation during their recent visit to Islamabad.

Both foreign ministers expressed their commitment to maintaining regular contact and moving forward with the understandings reached during the visit.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and ensuring that the agreements reached by the two sides are followed by practical steps.

Closer coordination could help both countries expand their partnership and identify more areas of mutual interest.

Commonwealth Meeting Also Discussed

The two ministers also exchanged views on the agenda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

They discussed matters related to cooperation at international forums, showing their interest in working together on issues of shared concern.

Such discussions allow countries to coordinate their positions on regional and international matters. Continued diplomatic contact can also help both sides address common challenges and strengthen their working relationship.

However, the statement did not provide specific details about new agreements, financial commitments or projects announced during the telephone call.

Dar Assures Uzbekistan of Pakistan’s Support

In a separate telephone conversation, Ishaq Dar spoke with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

Dar congratulated Uzbekistan on assuming the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government.
