(Web Desk): Rawalpindi ATC issues non-bailable arrest warrant for Alima Khan after rejecting her request to delay court appearance over frozen bank accounts and ID.

The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Alima Khan in connection with the case registered at Sadiqabad Police Station regarding the November 26 protest. The court took the decision after rejecting Alima Khan’s request to be excused from appearing in court.

Alima Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Malik, appeared in court and requested exemption from attendance, stating that her bank accounts and national identity card are frozen and, therefore, she cannot present herself in court.

Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah opposed the plea, arguing that the accused cannot dictate the court’s proceedings or hijack the judicial process. He added that the trial is being conducted on a daily basis and Alima Khan has shown irresponsible behavior from the beginning by failing to appear before the court. He further stated that until she appears in court, her bank accounts and ID cannot be unfrozen.

After hearing both sides, the court dismissed Alima Khan’s request for exemption and issued a non-bailable warrant for her arrest. The court ordered the Rawalpindi SP to ensure that Alima Khan is taken into custody and presented in court by the next day.

The court also issued a notice to Alima Khan’s surety and adjourned the case hearing until the following day. Officials confirmed that until she appears before the court, her bank accounts and national ID will remain blocked.

This move underscores the judiciary’s insistence on strict adherence to court procedures in cases involving public protests and security-related offenses.
