Maryam Nawaz underwent 'major surgery' - Is CM fighting cancer?
Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent “major surgery” at Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore. She later confirmed that the Punjab chief minister had been shifted back home after the operation.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Aurangzeb said: “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital, after which she has been shifted home.” The statement quickly drew public attention and triggered fresh debate on social media.
Aurangzeb also said that despite being admitted to hospital, Maryam Nawaz continued monitoring important provincial matters. She reportedly kept an eye on security, cleanliness and administrative arrangements on the first day of Eid.

Federal Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja responded to the post with prayers for Maryam Nawaz’s health and recovery. Supporters of the chief minister also shared messages wishing her a speedy return to full health.
This is not the first time concerns about Maryam Nawaz’s health have surfaced publicly. In November 2024, she was also admitted to Sharif Medical City Hospital after experiencing health-related issues.
At that time, Aurangzeb had explained that Maryam Nawaz underwent thyroid-related medical examinations. However, the recent surgery once again revived online rumours regarding her condition.
Last month, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari strongly denied reports claiming that Maryam Nawaz was battling cancer. She described the reports as “absolutely false news”.

“Such false propaganda with someone’s life is condemnable,” she said. Her statement came after rumours spread widely across social media and some digital platforms.
The journalist whose name was linked to the claims later denied making any statement about Maryam Nawaz’s health. This clarification further raised questions about how the rumours had circulated so quickly online.
Political observers say public curiosity about leaders’ health often creates space for speculation and misinformation. They believe official statements become important in stopping false narratives before they spread further.
