(Web Desk): Pakistan plans a Karachi–Iraq ferry service for pilgrims, promising cheaper, safer travel and major relief for thousands visiting holy sites.

In a major development for religious travelers, Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to prepare a feasibility report for launching a ferry service from Karachi to Iraq.

The proposed initiative aims to provide significant relief to thousands of Pakistani pilgrims who travel to Iraq each year to visit holy religious sites.

Affordable and Safer Travel Alternative

According to officials, the primary goal of the ferry service is to offer a cost-effective and secure alternative to expensive air travel. If implemented, the service could drastically reduce travel costs and make religious journeys more accessible to a larger number of people.

The move is expected to ease financial burdens while ensuring safer and more convenient travel options for pilgrims.

Feasibility Study Underway

The Interior Minister has instructed relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study covering technical, financial, and security aspects of the project. The government aims to fast-track the process and bring the plan to reality as soon as possible.

Experts believe that successful execution of the ferry service could transform regional travel connectivity between Pakistan and Iraq.

Visit to Pakistan Coast Guards Headquarters

During his visit to the headquarters of the Pakistan Coast Guards in Karachi, Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to martyrs and praised the force for its critical role in safeguarding the country’s borders, particularly maritime boundaries.

He emphasized that the Coast Guards play a vital role in ensuring national security and maintaining law enforcement across coastal regions.

Crackdown on Smuggling and Narcotics

The Interior Minister also directed authorities to intensify operations against drug trafficking and smuggling networks, warning that such illegal activities harm the national economy.

He reiterated that the government will not tolerate negligence and will provide full support to law enforcement agencies to eliminate smuggling mafias.

Strengthening National Security and Pilgrim Facilitation

Naqvi highlighted that the Pakistan Coast Guards is a unique force operating effectively on both land and sea. He assured continued government efforts to enhance its capabilities.

The combined initiatives—launching the ferry service and strengthening maritime security—are being seen as crucial steps toward improving pilgrim facilitation and ensuring national safety.
