Hospital records show that dog bite cases were reported between December and mid-January, with a sharp rise across the city. In December alone, 1,159 people sought treatment at government hospitals, including women and children.
Mayo Hospital treated 64 dog bite victims in December and another 46 cases during the first 13 days of January. Among them were 51 men and 13 women.
Ganga Ram Hospital recorded 38 cases in December and 10 more this month. Services Hospital saw 180 cases in December, followed by 88 new cases in early January.

Lahore General Hospital reported the highest number, with 321 dog bite cases in December. Jinnah Hospital Lahore treated 258 victims over the past month.
Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital reported 153 cases in December and 81 in January. Nawaz Sharif Yakki Gate Hospital recorded 43 cases in December and 21 more this month.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took serious notice of rising dog bite cases in Rawalpindi and asked the Deputy Commissioner to submit a detailed report.
She ordered strict legal action against negligence and directed authorities to ensure anti-rabies vaccines are available in all government hospitals. She said protecting citizens is the government’s top responsibility.
Her intervention came after two new dog bite cases were reported at District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi, this week. Both victims received treatment and the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine.

Dog bite cases are also increasing across the Rawalpindi district. In December alone, 391 cases were reported at Tehsil Headquarters hospitals.
Wah General Hospital reported 90 cases, followed by THQ Hospital, Gujar Khan, with 84, and THQ Hospital Taxila with 75 cases. Other affected hospitals included Kallar Syedan with 70 cases, Kahuta with 50, Murree with 15, and Kotli Sattian with seven cases.
