Sohail Afridi, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, hails from District Khyber. He was born on July 12, 1989, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Afridi made his political debut in 2024 when he was elected as MPA from PK-70 (Khyber-II) during the February general elections.
Initially, he contested as an independent candidate but later joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after his victory. Shortly after, he was appointed as Special Assistant for Communications and Construction, and later promoted to a full minister with the portfolio of Higher Education in the latest cabinet reshuffle.
According to party insiders, PTI founder Imran Khan, during the Toshakhana-II case hearing, hinted at possible changes in the provincial leadership, sparking intense speculation about Gandapur’s future.

Reports suggest that Sohail Afridi could be Imran Khan’s preferred choice for the Chief Minister’s position, marking a major shift in the province’s political landscape.
However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan dismissed the rumors, stating that “no decision has been made regarding the removal of Ali Amin Gandapur.” He termed the ongoing reports as “false news and a conspiracy aimed at dividing the party.”
The rumors about a possible change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s top office have created political uncertainty within PTI ranks. Sohail Afridi’s rapid rise — from an independent candidate to a cabinet minister — shows his growing influence. Yet, Gohar’s denial highlights deep divisions and power struggles inside the party. Political experts believe the coming days will be crucial for PTI as the battle between stability and internal rivalry intensifies.
