
In 2024 general elections, PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Arshad secured 44,049 votes while his opponent Mian Muhammad Atif, backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), got 41,478 votes.
It is to be noted here that earlier PTI-backed Mian Muhammad Atif was declared successful, but the notification of his success was stopped.
On the other hand, the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended the victory notification of PML-N leader Azhar Qayyum from NA-81 constituency, Gujranwala.
Justice Shahid Karim presided over the proceeding on a petition filed by Bilal Ejaz Chaudhry, who was a PTI-backed independent candidate. The petitioner pleaded that he had been declared successful with a lead of over 8,000 votes.
However, it was said in the petition, the returning officer in vote recount, declared the PML-N candidate winner. The petitioner had sought suspension of the notification of the victory of PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum.
Azhar Qayyum was declared successful after the vote recount from National Assembly Constituency NA-81 in Punjab's Gujranwala District.
As pre the recounting, the returning officer declared Azhar Qayyum successful with a lead of 3,201 votes while his totat votes were 110,057, and PTI-backed Bilal Ijaz was declared runner-up with 106,860 votes.
