In a statement, Asif Kirmani said he has been distancing himself from the political affairs of the party led by Nawaz Sharif for a long time.
Criticising the PML-N government, Asif Kirmani said people are "dying due to electricity bills and inflation" while a group of leaders is cheering the rulers for their "ineffective governance".
However, he did not give any hint about joining any other party. Asif Kirmani further said he will soon issue a detailed statement about his decision to quit the party.

It is worth mentioning here that Asif Kirmani was appointed by former premier Nawaz Sharif as his political secretary in 2013 during his regime.
He was considered a close aide of the former prime minister and played an active role during the PML-N’s election campaign before the party came to power in 2013.
Asif Kirmani has become the latest PML-N leader to leave the party over the party’s top leadership’s style of politics and the decision to form a government after the February 8 elections.
Last month, central PML-N leader Abbas Afridi announced leaving the party and politics.
During a Suno TV programme, he said politics in Pakistan was based on lies only.
Abbas Afridi also said that Nawaz Sharif had left politics, adding his politics was limited to Nawaz Sharif.
He said he was saying goodbye not only to PML-N but also to politics, adding he had no intention to join any other party.
Abbas Afridi further said Nawaz Sharif was his leader and party president, but he was out of politics. He said his friendship with Nawaz Sharif would remain.
About Pakistan’s politics, he said: “Only those who lie, hypocrites, and those who flatter can do politics here.”
