According to sources, Gandapur will send his resignation to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who must approve it within 48 hours by signing the summary. Once the resignation is accepted, the provincial cabinet will automatically stand dissolved.
Following the approval, PTI’s parliamentary party will meet to formally endorse the nomination of the new Chief Minister. The Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will then summon a special session for the election process.
During the assembly session, the nominated candidate will have to prove their majority through voting. Out of the 145 total members in the KP Assembly, a minimum of 73 votes is required to secure victory. PTI currently enjoys a strong majority with over 90 members, making its nominee the clear favorite to win the position.
Reports suggest that Gandapur may send his resignation to the governor later tonight. Once Governor Faisal Karim Kundi accepts it, the KP cabinet will be officially dissolved, clearing the way for the new Chief Minister’s election.

The governor will then issue a formal letter to Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, instructing him to convene a special session of the assembly within the constitutional timeframe for the selection of the new leader of the House.
The power transition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appears to be swift and well-coordinated, reflecting PTI’s strong internal organization. With an assured majority in the assembly, the new Chief Minister’s election is expected to proceed smoothly. However, political analysts believe the real challenge will be maintaining unity and direction in the province after Gandapur’s exit — especially amid shifting power dynamics within PTI.
