TV anchor with her five family members goes missing at Babusar Top

(Web Desk): A female anchor from a private television channel, Shabana Liaqat, has mysteriously disappeared along with her family at Babusar Top in Gilgit-Baltistan, on Sunday.

According to the Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson, Shabana Liaquat is a news anchor for a private TV channel. The channel’s management reached out to authorities after failing to contact her. A woman s purse was found on the Babusar Highway, which has been confirmed to belong to the missing anchor Shabana. The purse was discovered by a local volunteer in the Thak Babusar area and contained her national identity card.

The tourist region of Babusar in the Diamer district is witnessing widespread devastation caused by flooding, leaving the area in a somber state.

Efforts to trace the missing tourists are ongoing, with sniffer dogs and drone technology being used to support the search. Police, district administration, disaster management teams, and rescue workers are all participating in the search operation. The Pakistan Army and GB Scouts have also joined the efforts.

Eyewitnesses report that between 10 to 15 tourists were swept away by floodwaters on the Babusar Highway.

Despite ongoing floods, local residents of Chilas have been actively helping affected tourists.

Meanwhile, the Thak Babusar road, which was damaged by flooding and landslides last Monday, remains closed. Due to the large amount of debris, additional machinery has been deployed to clear the road.

The Deputy Commissioner has stated that the road will be reopened soon for one-way traffic.

In Fairy Meadows, several tourists are still stranded. Due to bad weather, helicopter rescue operations have been suspended. Police and locals are attempting to evacuate tourists via road access.
