Punjab summer vacation extension: Decision still pending
LAHORE (Web Desk): Summer vacations in Punjab will end on August 15; however, parents and students are awaiting confirmation of an extension from the provincial government.

Officially, schools and colleges are set to reopen on August 15, 2025, as per the notification announced in May.

Despite widespread speculation on social media and rumors of a potential extension, the School Education Department (SED) Punjab has confirmed no new official decision has been made regarding prolonging the break.

Government officials have stated that any change would depend on a review of prevailing weather conditions closer to mid-August.

Summer break is currently scheduled from May 28 to August 14, 2025, for public and private schools. All schools are mandated to resume classes on August 15, 2025. Revised school timings have been in effect since late May to protect against heat for single shift schools: Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and for Friday: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

For double shift schools, morning shift from Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and Friday: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; as for the evening shift, Monday to Thursday: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, while Friday: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Schools are expected to reopen as scheduled. However, anecdotal reports suggest low student attendance on reopening day is likely. If attendance lags significantly, schools may delay full academic activities until August 18, the Monday following the weekend.

At present, no extension has been announced — but authorities emphasize that any potential revision will be communicated publicly via official channels.

While official timelines remain intact for now, any extension remains a possibility depending on weather developments in mid-August. For now, students, parents, and educators are urged to stay tuned to trusted announcements from the Punjab School Education Department.
