LAHORE (Web Desk): Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Green & Clean Transport” vision, the Punjab government has officially opened registration for its E-Taxi program.

The initiative aims to introduce 1,100 interest-free electric taxis in Lahore and select division headquarters. The government invites OEMs, authorized dealers, distributors, and joint ventures to register eligible EV models under the pilot phase.

Registration & Application Steps

Who can apply:

The distributors, dealers, and joint ventures of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can apply.

What to submit:

Complete application form, vehicle specifications, compliance documents, and proof of financial & technical capability should be submitted.

When & where:

Deadline: At 11:00 AM on June 24, 2025, Tuesday.

Submission: Transport & Mass Transit Department, 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore.

Clarification meeting:

Scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the committee room of the department. Minutes and guidance will be published online.

EV Models on Offer:

The program seeks brand-new, locally assembled or imported EVs between 660cc and 1,300cc engine capacity.

Available models include:

       Honri VC20 – 200 km per charge, 6–7 hour charging, Mango Yellow scheme color, priced ~PKR 4 million.

       Honri VC30 – 300 km per charge, similar charging time, priced ~PKR 5 million.

All EVs come with assured local spare parts and support networks.

Driver Eligibility (Next Phase):

       The minimum age is 21 years.

       Residency and valid Punjab driving license is mandatory.

       One year of driving experience is not mandatory but preferred.

       For now, the pilot begins in Lahore, and in the future, it will expand to Faisalabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi.

Financial Support & Next Steps:

       EV models that are approved will be listed as eligible for the scheme.

       Drivers selecting from this list will benefit from:

o The provincial government will give equity assistance.

o Bank of Punjab will give interest-free, five-year loans.

o Partial registration fee subsidies.

       Financing cap: Up to PKR 6.5 million per vehicle; buyers cover any excess cost.

This comprehensive support package ensures low financial barriers, encouraging widespread adoption and advancing Punjab’s green mobility goals.

With solar-powered charging stations to be installed every 3 km in Lahore, with plans of expanding it nationwide, this opportunity creates jobs for youth and underprivileged communities and is sustainable.

Next Steps:

       The OEMs, dealers, distributors, and joint ventures should attend the June 12 clarification meeting and begin document preparation.

       By June 24, 2025, at 11 AM, the application should be submitted in order to qualify.

       Vehicles can be selected and the financial support packages can be selected by drivers once EV models are approved.

Over 60,000 applications are expected and this registration phase is pivotal as Punjab fosters a healthier, sustainable environment with inclusive urban transport.
