LAHORE: (Web Desk) The Punjab government has taken a major step forward in its long-awaited e-taxi initiative, approving a pilot phase that will deploy 1,100 electric taxis along with solar-powered charging stations.

The decision came during a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing and future mass transit projects.

Among the key updates was the presentation of a feasibility report for the Yellow Line mass transit system and a comprehensive briefing on the province s environmentally friendly e-taxi plan.

The meeting granted in-principle approval for the project’s financial model and greenlit the pilot launch of electric taxis. It was also agreed that solar-powered systems would be used to operate the e-charging infrastructure, making the project even more sustainable.
