LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has approved multiple new parking plazas at key inner-city locations, to resolve the long-standing traffic and parking problems in Androon Lahore.

These inner city locations include Nila Gumbad, Anarkali, Tollinton Market, and an underground facility at Nasir Bagh.

The initiative, led by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) through its Traffic Engineering & Transport Planning Agency (TEPA), aims to relieve severe traffic pressure in the historic commercial hubs of the provincial capital while boosting business activity.

During a high-level meeting chaired by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Nasir Bagh underground parking plaza received formal approval after its feasibility report was presented. TEPA has been assigned the project and will seek final clearance from the Punjab Planning & Development Department in its upcoming session.

The plan also covers Nila Gumbad, Anarkali, and Tollinton Market, with construction for these sites scheduled to begin within the current fiscal year. According to officials, the Nila Gumbad plaza will be a three-story underground structure accommodating hundreds of cars and motorbikes, significantly reducing on-street parking in surrounding areas such as New Anarkali and Mall Road.

“This is a major step towards restoring smooth traffic flow in Lahore’s busiest historic districts,” officials stated, adding that the plazas will feature modern parking management systems, security surveillance, and improved pedestrian access to nearby markets.

Authorities expect the projects to not only ease congestion but also enhance the shopping experience and commercial activity in Androon Lahore, where overcrowded streets and lack of organized parking have been a challenge for decades.
