LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has unveiled Pakistan’s first-ever emergency airlift drone.

The emergency airlift drone is capable of lifting up to 200 kg, to assist with rescue operations in flood-affected areas across the province.

The advanced drone, procured by the Home Department, has already undergone successful test flights in Lahore and has been deployed to Multan, where rising waters have trapped residents in isolated zones.

According to Punjab’s Home Secretary, Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, the government plans to acquire 10 additional airlift drones to strengthen the capabilities of the Civil Defence Resilience Corps, termed Pakistan’s first emergency drone service of its kind.

Dr. Qazi praised Civil Defence personnel and newly registered volunteers—over 4,000 citizens, he noted—for their roles as "frontline soldiers" in executing rescues, evacuating high-risk and inaccessible areas, and aiding flood victims with shelter, food, and medical care.

The drone-based service is expected to significantly improve rescue response times and ensure safer evacuations during emergencies, aligning with international standards for disaster management
