NADRA has clarified the entry of ‘Residents of AJK State’ on Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
NADRA stated, in an official statement, the designation will be imprinted in red on regular CNICs and in black on Smart CNICs. Applicants are required to provide a valid State Subject Certificate issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government to use this feature.
NADRA clarified that without the State Subject Certificate, the residency status cannot be imprinted on CNIC.
Earlier, rumours regarding changes to this policy have made rounds on social media. The rumors are baseless and are being spread with ulterior motives, it said.
It added that it had issued more than 50,000 CNICs with print of “Resident of AJK State” between December 2024 and January 2025.
The authority linked the absence of this imprint with applicant’s failure to submit the required certificate at the time of application. The absence of print could be due to errors made by the data entry operator during the CNIC processing.
“NADRA is fully committed to fulfilling its legal responsibilities and ensures that identity documents are issued in compliance with prescribed regulations and policies,” the statement said.
