Following the warning issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) of heavy rains, authorities in Islamabad declared the temporary closure of various hiking trails of the Margalla Hills, on Sunday.
The step was taken to ensure the safety of the public during the impending bout of inclement weather, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), on the advice of its Director General, stated.
The shutdown will continue until August 19, 2025, and is for Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, Trail 5, and the trail behind Saidpur Village. Currently, the decision was made to keep risks at bay for trekkers and tourists as heavy rains might put visitors at risk in the federal capital.

This comes as extensive monsoon activity is ongoing in the country. The PMD has predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra, causing concerns of flash floods during August 17-19.
Likewise, the meteorology department has warned that flash flooding could occur in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and Galliyat streams and nullahs due to torrential rains. Officials have asked people to not undertake unnecessary journeys to affected zones and stay informed about weather alerts for their protection.
