
According to the annual notification of public holidays issued by the cabinet division at the beginning of 2025, public holidays will be observed across the country on 9th and 10th Muharram that would be July 5th and 6th, 2025 (Saturday and Sunday), during Muharram Al-Haram.
These holidays will be given in view of the beginning of the Hijri year 1447 AH and the Day of Ashura, with the aim of facilitating citizens to mourn and perform religious rituals.

It should be noted that these dates have already been included in the annual holiday notification by the government and their implementation is expected in all government and private institutions. Details of the arrangements regarding security, traffic and law and order during Muharram will be released by the relevant institutions later.
It should be noted that SUPARCO has released the moon sighting prediction for Muharram 1447 AH, according to which the crescent moon is expected to appear on June 25, 2025 at 3:32 PM (PST). At sunset on June 26, 2025, the crescent moon will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old.
According to the spokesperson of SUPARCO, the expected period between sunset and moonset in the coastal areas of the country will be 75 minutes. This period will provide the most favorable conditions for the sighting of the crescent. Based on astronomical factors, the chances of sighting the new moon of Muharram are best on the evening of June 26, 2025, in case of clear weather. The 1st of Muharram 1447 AH is expected on June 27, 2025.
